Spelling Bee Stars

Our Spelling Bee at Cream today went 30 + rounds - the competition was fierce. Coming out on top was Jeylinin Marte, an absolutely outstanding speller from 4th grade. In 2nd place was 8th grader Davonna Collier. They were followed by Tamiya Dickerson, Siani Davis, and Trae Walker all in 6th grade. We wish them all well in the district competition.
Junior Achievement of New Jersey Comes to Cream

Verizon and students from Brimm Medical Arts partnered together to bring Junior Achievement to Cream School. All students in Grades K through 5 experienced having a volunteer(s) in thier room for a day. Junior Achievement uses hands-on experiences to help young people understand the business of life. In partnership with business and educators, Junior Achievement brings the real world to students, opening their minds to their potential and preparing them for the world of work.
5th Grade Holiday Celebration

The fifth grade team researched three winter holidays and planned various activities to integrate the holiday season with a fun social studies learning experience.
The Final Harvest of 2011

Our PreK children from Ms. Harris' class picked the last of the collard greens this morning. To everyone's surprise a beautiful green pepper was also found. Everyone is looking forward to planting once again next spring.

Football Hall of Famer, Jack Youngblood

Ms. Steed's 7th Grade LA class participated in a distance learning session with the Football Hall of Fame featuring Jack Youngblood. Pre-sessions consisted of researching Mr. Youngblood not just concentrating on his football achievements but his contributions to his football team and his community as a man of good character. They developed questions to ask Mr. Youngblood during the session. The students did an outstanding job and represented our school and city proudly.

Read Around the Planet

5 teachers are participating in this year's RAP - Ms Atkin's 4th grade class was paired with a 4th grade class from western Pennsylvania. Ms. Atkin's class read poems that they wrote and their partner class put on a short play and read a book. It was a wonderful collaboration and they are planning on getting together again in the spring. A grandparent came to enjoy the time with his grandaughter. Mrs. Kober's 3rd grade class was paired with a class from Ohio. They shared information about their respective states. Our other teachers will have their collaborations in March. Distance Learning is an invaluable experience for our students.
"The River Inside" 4th Grade Distance Learning

Ms. Atkin's class participated in a program sponsored by Vanderbilt UniversityVirtual School. They went on a 1200 mile journey by canoe down the Mississippi River from Tennessee to New Orleans. We all learned so much! Did you know there are "locks" on the Mississippi River? They experienced one man's journey that at first seemed impossible to do.
